DO YOU HAVE A SLOW COMPUTER?
Speeding up a PC is the most common service PC Tech Guru provides. PC Tech Guru successfully revives the most stubborn of slow computers and laptops. But at best your PC can only go as fast as the parts inside your PC.
In this article we talk about a much faster hard drive for your PC, it is called an SSD (Solid State Drive).
As a hot topic in my appointments, in this section I aim to breakdown the means to upgrade your PC affordably in a way you can understand.
WHY CHOOSE AN SSD?
# Up to 5x Faster than a HDD
# SSD's Are Silent. HDDs make clicking noises.
# Prices for an SSD start less than £40 for 125gb storage.
# Power button to Desktop in around 15 seconds.
# SSD's have nothing mechanical, so can last longer.
# Reduces loading times dramatically for programs.
# Transfer Files at Super speed.
# Can install on PC's made after around 2006.
HOW MUCH IS AN SSD?
SSD's are surprisingly not new, they have been out a few years. The good news for you is that they are still sought after for a faster PC, and have dramatically reduced price recently.
125GB - £30-£40
250GB - £40-£80
480GB - £60-£120
1TB - £200+

WHICH BRAND TO CHOOSE?
ARE SSD'S DIFFERENT IN A LAPTOP?
Yes they are. You require a 9mm SSD in a desktop, but more importantly a 7mm in a laptop (which you can check in the products description before you buy).
If you do not buy a 7mm SSD for a laptop, then you might not be able to put the back cover on your laptop.
#ALWAYS check the size before you buy#
WHAT CAN PC TECH GURU DO?
PC Tech Guru can help you decide which size SSD you require, based upon your usage and files you currently have. It is always wise to 'Future-proof' yourself, as on average most of my customers buy an SSD half the size of their current drive because for one their current one is way too big, and ssds are quite pricey after 500gb.
Also remember the SSD you buy will be clean, which means you will require at the bare minimum Windows10 on it, which comes with our service cost, alternatively it maybe possible to use your current Windows10 key if any.
PC Tech Guru temporarily backs up your files from your old drive, until the SSD is installed. When Windows10 is installed, files can be placed onto the SSD if you so wish. This method is particularly used for laptops because most have only one hard drive slot at a time.
Most desktops have more slots, there should be no need to back up files beforehand. You can use your old HDD and new SSD at the same time usually labelled as Local Disk C: and Local Disk D:
